A clinical study done by Dr Chiew Kong, Renal Unit, Lister
Hospital, Stevenage has proved that exercising during dialysis actually improves the effectiveness of the treatment and removal of urea, creatinine and potassium from the system.
It came to light in the summer of this year, that a dialysis unit was purchasing Airogym™ Exercisers. Further investigation discovered that Dr Kong advocates that exercise during the dialysis treatment is very beneficial to the patient. After completing a clinical trial (Please see attached Appendix III), whereby the patients had to cycle during treatment, she discovered a much easier way for her patients increase the blood flow through the system, so she regularly purchases Airogym™ Exercisers for her dialysis unit in Hertfordshire. The increase in blood flow makes the dialysis treatment more effective. The patient becomes stronger and fitter for their every day life.
Dialysis patients suffer treatments 3 or 4 times a week for 4 hours or so. The treatment itself is unpleasant and often leaves them feeling week. They then feel better for a while until the toxins in the body start building again before their next treatment, then the cycle repeats. Anything that can be done to help them feel better is high on our list of priorities.
There are many benefits for hospitals to purchase the Airogym™ Dialysis Exerciser for their patients or indeed for patients to buy their own Airogym™ Dialysis Exerciser.
