Question: Are you elderly or unable to exercise regularly?

As we age, the bodily functions start to slow down, resulting in stiffness and the propensity for age related diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and general aches and pains. It is important to exercise in order to keep the blood flowing through the veins to feed the muscles and organs and maintain healthy joints, as well as to reduce the risk of a fatal embolism caused by thickening of the blood. Sometimes, due to ill health, environment or lack of energy, it is difficult to get out and exercise regularly. With the Airogym™ Exerciser, it is possible to keep up with regular, gentle exercise in the comfort and safety of your own home!

It came to our attention that many Airogym™ exercisers were being bought by physiotherapists. Further investigation revealed they were using the Airogym™ to help their patients, either those recovering from illness, the elderly and immobile, and the disabled.

Ann Wooldridge MCSP SRP has tested Airogym and now regularly employs the device during the treatment of elderly and less mobile patients.

“It has been proven in tests that exercising using the Airogym trebles the peak flow velocity measured in the femoral vein” comments Mrs Wooldridge. “Designed and developed by a senior long haul flight captain, the benefits of this simple, inflatable device are not exclusive to travellers. The potential of DVT problems in the elderly, the less mobile and the other ‘at risk’ patients has recently been highlighted.

The Airogym is an ‘egg timer’ shaped sac, which is partially inflated and alternate pressure from the feet or hands offers resistance to movement. It is intended to be used in the seated position.” Ann Wooldridge concludes; “this small, effective and reasonably priced product, is a useful tool in our armoury of preventive medicine.”

As the Airogym™ Exerciser promotes such gentle exercise, it is very suitable for those who are weaker or unable to walk. Physiotherapists use it to exercise the legs, feet, hands, arms and even head. The Airogym™ Exerciser provides an effective exercise to strengthen the knee, hip, arm and leg muscles.

The elderly have really taken to the Airogym™ for use at home. Many who find they cannot exercise as much as they like, and live fairly sedentary lifestyles are delighted with the Airogym™ Exerciser, a gentle alternative to walking, which does not put strain on any other part of the body. This can then be used to build strength and suppleness, enabling users to regain their ability to walk further and for longer in the future. The Airogym™ can be more or less inflated to suit the user, and the workout can be gradually increased with time.
